William (Bill) Wolfe is a 1972 graduate who was a four-year letterman in football. A native of Marianna, Arkansas, he came to UAPB out of Anna Strong High School on a full athletic scholarship and was a fixture at the defensive end position. Using his quickness and aggressive tackling ability, he caused havoc for the opposing team’s offensive line. After graduating and being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army, he spent over 22 years in the military. He retired from active duty as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1995. While in the Army, he held several major positions which included being an assistant professor of military science at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. At one time, he was Chief Liaison Officer to the Multi-National Peacekeeping Organization in the Middle East. Shortly after retiring from the military, he entered a joint venture with his brother to organize and build Wolfe Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. in West Memphis, Arkansas. He also is Coroner of Crittenden County, Arkansas and is the first-ever African-American to serve as coroner. He is a member of the Veterans of Foreign War, the Democratic Central Committee and the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association.
