UA Pine Bluff Athletics

As permitted by the NCAA on July 1, 2021, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff student-athletes are permitted to earn compensation for their name, image or likeness (NIL). UAPB NIL policy is intended to promote compliance with Arkansas state law and NCAA policies, simplify student-athletes' rights to receive compensation for the use of their name, image, and likeness, and maintain student-athlete eligibility. 

UAPB NIL Policy

A student-athlete may not enter into an endorsement contract with, or otherwise receive compensation from, any of the following categories of brands or companies:

1. Adult entertainment, sexually suggestive products, or sex oriented products, services, conduct, imagery, or inferences;
2. Alcohol products;
3. A casino and gambling, including without limitation sports betting and betting in connection with a video game or online game, or on a mobile device;
4. Tobacco, marijuana, or electronic smoking products and devices;
5. Pharmaceuticals;
6. Any dangerous or controlled substance;
7. Drug paraphernalia;
8. Weapons, including without limitation firearms and ammunition; or
9. Any product, substance, or method that is prohibited in competition by an athletic association, athletic conference, or other organization governing varsity intercollegiate athletic competition.

A student athlete is prohibited from entering into a contract that requires the student-athlete to endorse, use, solicit, sell, market, advertise, promote, refer to, mention, display or otherwise promote the name, image, logo, product, service, purpose, campaign, business, digital or physical address, or location of any third-party licensee or commercial entity during a varsity intercollegiate athletic practice, competition, or other activity. 

A student athlete is prohibited from entering into a contract that conflicts with a term or condition of a contract, policy, rule, regulation, or standard of UAPB. 

A student athlete is prohibited from entering into a contract that involves the student-athlete's performance or lack of performance in athletic competition. 

Compensation opportunities for a student-athlete's name, image, or likeness should not conflict with academic activities, athletic competition, official team activities, or a UAPB sponsored event. In addition, UAPB always retains the right to establish and enforce:

• Academic standards, requirements, regulations, or obligations for its students;
• Team rules of conduct or other rules of conduct;
• Standards or policies regarding the governance or operation of or participation in varsity intercollegiate athletics; and 
• Disciplinary rules generally applicable to all students of the institution of higher education.

International student-athletes should not enter into a compensation agreement for use of their name, image, or likeness without first communicating with the Office of International Programs and Studies. 

Student athletes are not authorized to use, without express written permission, the name, nickname, trademarks, service logos, service marks, landmarks, facilities, trade dress, uniforms, songs, mascots, logos, images, symbols, or other intellectual property of the institution, athletic conference, or other organization with authority over varsity intercollegiate athletics.
