Pine Bluff, Arkansas: Betty is a 1980 graduate who was a three-year letter-winner in women’s basketball and track and field. After producing impressive numbers as a two-sport athlete at Pine Bluff High School that included establishing a long jump record, she started her collegiate journey in 1976 at Mississippi Valley State University on a full scholarship and later transferred to UAPB and joined the volleyball and basketball teams.

During her final three seasons, she was a key performer on both teams. She also was a part of the 1978-1979 women’s basketball team that finished runners-up in the Arkansas Women’s Intercollegiate Sports Association (AWISA) Tournament. She has been a long-time fixture within the UAPB women’s athletic program, having served as head coach for various sports such as volleyball, softball, bowling, tennis and golf. Perhaps one of the greatest accomplishments during her lengthy UAPB career was serving 27 years as activity director for the National Youth Sports Program which was a summer program for kids between the age range of nine and 16.

Betty-Hayes Anthony still has close ties with her high school and a Distinguished Female Track Award is given annually to a member of the girls’ track team in her name. In her current UAPB role, she is the Associate Athletic Director for Women’s Sports and Senior Woman Administrator. She also serves as state president of the Arkansas State Association of Daughters of Elks, a member of the National Association of University Women, the UAPB National Alumni Association, New Saint Hurricane Baptist Church in Pine Bluff and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
