Pamela Smith is a 1992 graduate who was a four-year letter-winner in track and field. A native of Pine Bluff, she was a part of UAPB’s track and field program that finished second in the nation at the 1989 NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field championships at Azusa, California. She also was on the squad that finished 11th overall at the 1991 national outdoor championships in Stephenville, Texas. She doubled up as a 400 and 800-meter runner during her collegiate career. Competing as a freshman at the Harding University Indoor Invitational in Searcy, Arkansas, she ran the second leg on the winning 4X400-meter relay team. She has over 25 years of law enforcement experience and a decorated career, having achieved numerous honors and awards.

In July 2023, she was appointed as Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC. Prior to her current position, the Biden administration appointed her as Chief of the United Park Police as she became the first African-American woman to lead the 232-year old agency. As a minister today, she uses her platform to counsel and mentor youth and young adults to make a positive impact on their lives. She has a bachelor’s degree in education, a graduate certificate in criminal justice education from the University of Virginia and is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy.

She is a member of the National Organization for Black Law Enforcement Executives, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and Women in Federal Law Enforcement and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
