Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. (May 12) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Softball team advanced in the loser's bracket with a 6-1 win over Alabama A&M here Friday morning in the 2017 Southwestern Athletic Conference Softball Tournament.
UAPB finished the contest with eight hits, whereas AAMU finished with five.
Paige Garcia led the Lady Lions from the plate with two hits in three at-bats, scoring one run and recording four RBIs.
Madi Pozzi led the Lady Bulldogs from the plate as she went two-for-three from the plate.
Angelique Ramos (10-8) received the win for UAPB. In her outing in the circle, she gave up five hits, one earned runs and striking out two in the seven innings of work.
Rachel Sanders (0-7) received the loss for AAMU. She gave up three hits and one earned run in her outing in the circle.
AAMU jumped out to the 1-0 lead with Imani Largin scoring on a double steal in the top of the first inning.
UAPB answered in the bottom of the first inning with four runs in the inning with
Tonnay Hawkins scoring on an AAMU fielding error. Then both Garcia and
Ta'Lyn Moody would score on a Garcia two-run homer. Alex Taylor would score the Lady Lions' final run of the inning on a Karia Hall sacrifice fly to left field to give UAPB a 4-1 advantage.
The Lady Lions plated two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for the 6-1 final.
UAPB will now face Alabama State today, May 12 in an afternoon elimination game in a 4:30 p.m. start at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex in Montgomery, Ala.
