GRAMBLING, La. — The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball team used a dominant seventh inning to pull away from Grambling, breaking open a tied game and securing a 9-4 victory over the Tigers on Friday.
With the score knotted at 4-4 entering the final frame, the Lady Lions erupted for five runs in the seventh inning to seal the win in convincing fashion.
Kaydrian Fields (4-2) earned the victory in the circle, tossing a complete game. The right-hander allowed four earned runs on nine hits while walking three and striking out two.
At the plate, Lyric Perry led the offensive charge, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Janai Mathis added a strong performance, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and two RBIs, while Ryen Gaddis contributed a triple as part of the Lady Lions' 11-hit effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UAPB wasted no time getting on the board, striking in the top of the first inning. The offense came alive early, plating four runs, highlighted by a three-run home run from Perry to give the Lady Lions a 4-0 advantage.
Grambling responded by rallying back to tie the game at 4-4 heading into the later innings.
The Lady Lions answered in a big way in the seventh, putting together their most explosive inning of the game. A two-run single from Janiah Wilson highlighted the five-run outburst, pushing UAPB ahead 9-4.
UAPB held firm defensively in the bottom half, closing out the victory to complete the comeback.
