PINE BLUFF, AR.- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions showcased a complete team effort Friday, as all nine starters reached base safely in a 3–2 win over Southern.
UAPB was powered by a strong outing in the circle from Kaydrian Fields (3-2), who went the distance. The right-hander tossed seven innings, allowing two earned runs on nine hits, while walking two and striking out four.
At the plate, the Lady Lions delivered timely hitting throughout the lineup. Lyric Perry led the way, going 1-for-3 with a solo home run and an RBI. Ariana Gonzalez provided the biggest swing of the game, finishing 1-for-3 with a two-run double, while Chasney Cooper added a solid 2-for-4 performance.
How It Happened
UAPB struck first in the third inning, plating two runs on Gonzalez's clutch two-run double to take an early lead.
Southern responded to cut the deficit to 2–1, but the Lady Lions answered in the sixth inning when Perry launched a leadoff home run to extend the lead to 3–1.
The Jaguars added one run late, but UAPB's pitching held firm down the stretch to secure the 3–2 victory.
