MEMPHIS EDGES UAPB, 5-3

Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. (March 3) - The University of Memphis pulled out a 5-3 victory over the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Softball team in their second game of the Blues City Classic, here Friday night at the Softball Complex.
 
UAPB finished the contest with seven hits, while Memphis finished with 10.
 
The Lady Lions was led by both Tonnay Hawkins and Ta'Lyn Moody with two hits each.
 
UM was led by Lindsay Crowdus with three hits, followed by Kyler Trosclair and Erin Parker with two hits each for the Tigers.
 
Katie Brignac (1-0) received the win for the Tigers.  She spent five innings in the circle, allowing five hits, two earned runs and striking out five in the 24 batters she faced.  Molly Smith received the save for UM as she pitched two innings in relief, allowing two hit and striking out three in the eight batters she faced.
 
Angelique Ramos (1-4) received the loss for UAPB.  He pitched one inning, allowing three hits and one earned run in the eight batters she faced.  Karia Beth Hall pitched five innings in relief, allowing seven hits, two earned runs and striking out two in the 23 batters she faced.
 
UAPB jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first innings with Moody scoring on an Alexandria Taylor fielder's choice.
 
UM plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-1 lead over UAPB.  Trosclair scored the Tigers' first run of the inning on a Crowdus single.  Then Crowdus would score on an Erin Parker single up the middle.
 
The Tigers added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning with UM scoring two runs in the inning to increase their lead to 4-1. 
 
UAPB cut UM's lead to 4-3 with both Hawkins and Shanice Akins scoring on a Paige Garcia single in the top of the fifth inning.
 
Trosclair would score the Tigers' final run of the contest for the 5-3 win on Crowdus single up the middle in the bottom of the sixth inning.
