Box Score RUSTON, La. (Feb. 10) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Softball team scores four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat Samford University, 8-7 here Friday afternoon at the Louisiana Tech Softball Complex.
UAPB (1-0) finished the contest with seven hits with three Lady Lions finishing with two hits each in
Tonnay Hawkins,
Ta'Lyn Moody and
Paige Garcia.
SU (0-2) finished the contest with eight hits with Madison Couch going three-for-four from the plate to lead the Bulldogs.
Karia Beth Hall (1-0) got the win for the Lady Lions as she pitched eight innings, allowing eight hits, three earned runs and striking out two in the 40 batters she faced.
SU used two pitchers in the contest with Grey Adams pitching seven and one-third innings, allowing seven hits, four earned runs and striking out five in the 31 batters she faced. Taylor DeCelles faced four batters in one-third inning of work.
UAPB jumped scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead on a Garcia two-run blast to left center field.
The Bulldogs retook the lead in their half of the third inning with SU scoring four runs to take a 4-2 lead.
UAPB tied the contest at 4-4 on a Garcia homer and a
Kameron Graham triple scoring
Maria Aguilar in the bottom of the fourth inning.
In extra innings, SU plated three runs to taka 7-4 lead in their half of the eighth inning.
UAPB plated four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the 8-7 victory. The Lady Lions scored their first run of the inning on a bases loaded walk scoring
Shanice Akins. Then both Moody and Hawkins would score on an Aguilar fielder's choice to tie the score at 7-7. Aguilar would then score on a SU fielding error to give Lady Lions the win.
