SOUTHERN SWEEPS UAPB IN SATURDAY DOUBLEHADER

Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. ( April 11)  - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Softball team dropped a doubleheader to Southern University with the Jaguars winning game one 5-3 and game two 4-0, here Saturday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Baseball, Softball and Little League Complex.
 
In game one, UAPB tallied 12 hits, while SU finished with nine.
 
UAPB was led by Jasmine Hardwrick with four hits and scoring two runs in the contest, while SU had three Jaguars to finish with two hits each.
 
Sara Miller (5-3) received the win for the Jaguars, allowing 12 hits, two earned runs and striking out three in seven inning of work, while Hailey Forbes (3-11) received the loss for UAPB, allowing nine hits, five earned runs and striking out three in seven innings of work.
 
SU grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning with the Jaguars scoring three runs in the inning.
 
Tonnay Hawkins scored the Lady Lions first run of the contest on Hardwrick single up the middle, cutting SU's lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the first inning.
 
UAPB picked up their second run of the contest with Tiressa Jacobs scoring on a SU infielder's error, in the bottom of the third inning, cutting the Jaguars' lead to 3-2.
 
SU plated two more runs in the contest with the Jaguars scoring one run in the top of the sixth and another in the top of the seventh inning to take a 5-2 lead.
 
UAPB plated their final run of the contest in the bottom of the seventh inning on Hardwrick double scoring Page Garcia for the 5-3 finale.
 
In game two, both teams finished with four hits each, while both teams combined for eight errors in the contest.
 
UAPB was led by Jacobs with two hits, while Kiara Suttles finished with two hit to lead SU.
 
Delphia Holmes (5-2) received the win for SU, allowing four hits and striking out two in seven innings of work, while Shanice Murry (2-9) received the loss for UAPB, allowing four hits, one earned and striking out tree in seven innings of work.
 
SU plated three runs in the top of the third inning to take a 3-0 in the contest and then plated one more run in the top of the seventh inning for the 4-0 win.
