Box Score PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (March 28) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Softball team split a doubleheader with Prairie View A&M with the Lady Lions pulling out a 9-8 win in game one and dropping the second game 9-8 to the Lady Panthers, here Saturday afternoon at Prairie View A&M Softball Field.
In game one, UAPB belted out 12 hits, while PVAMU finished with eight.
Tonnay Hawkins led the Lady Lions from the plate with three hits in four at-bats, scoring two runs and driving in one, while both Destinee Williams and Amanda Ford finished two hits apiece for the Lady Panthers.
Hailey Forbes (3-6) picked up the win for UAPB, allowing eight hits, five earned runs and striking out four in seven innings of work.
Jessica Long (0-2) received the loss for PVAMU, allowing three earned runs, six hits, and striking out one in two and two-third innings of work.
The Lady Lions plated three run in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-0 lead.
UAPB tied the contest at 3-3 as they scored three runs in the top of the second inning. Hawkins scored their first run of the inning on a Page Garcia single. Then Garcia scored on a
Jasmine Hardwrick double to right field, followed by a Lady Panther error scoring Hardwrick.
PVAMU regained the lead in the bottom of the third on an Amanda Ford sacrifice fly to center field scoring Peyton Simms, giving the Lady Panthers a 4-3 lead.
UAPB tied the contest in to top of the fifth inning at 4-4 on a Forbes' single scoring Hardwrick.
PVAMU regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning as they scored three runs to take a 7-4 lead in the contest.
The Lady Lions regained the lead in the top of the seventh in inning as UAPB scored six runs in the inning to take a 10-7 lead.
PVAMU scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as UAPB held on for the 10-9 win in game one.
IN game two, UAPB tallied 13 hits, whereas PVAMU finished with 14. Both teams combined for five errors in the contact with UAPB finishing with three and PVAMU with two.
Tiressa Jacobs led the Lady Lions from the plate as she went a perfect four-for-four from the plate, scoring one run and driving in four.
PVAMU was paced by Shontel Lopez with four hits in five at-bats, scoring one runs and driving in two runs in the contest.
Sabrina Johnson (1-2) picked up the win for the Lady Panthers, allowing five this, one earned runs, and two walks in four innings of relief. Monica Cartwright, the PVAMU starter pitched three inning, allowing eight hits, four earned runs and striking out one in the 18 batters she faced.
Shanice Murry (1-6) received the loss for the Lady Lions, allowing 14 hits, six earned runs, and striking out three in six and two-third innings of work.
PVAMU grabbed the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with Destinee Williams scoring on an Alisha Navarro sacrifice fly to centerfield.
UAPB scored four runs in the top of the third inning to take a 4-1 lead with a Garcia scoring on a Hardwrick double to right field, followed by a Jacobs single up the middle scoring Hardwrick. Then both Jacobs and
Monique Nikolao on a Nikolao homer to left field.
PVAMU went 5-4 in the contest as they plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
UAPB reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth inning with a Jacobs bases clearing single to right center scoring Murry, Hardwrick and Hawkins giving the Lady Lions a 7-5 lead.
The Lady Panthers cut into the UAPB lead in the bottom of the sixth inning with Tiffany Robertson scoring a Ford ground out to second back, making the score 7-6 in favor of UAPB.
UAPB took an 8-6 advantage in the top of the seventh inning with Forbes scoring on a
Misty Callas ground out to third.
PVAMU plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally past UAPB for the 9-8 win.
