FIVE-RUN FOURTH POWERS UAPB PAST MISS. VALLEY STATE, 9-6

UAPB Lady Lions defeated Mississippi Valley 9-6 in SWAC Round-Up
Box Score CONROE, TEXAS (March 23)  - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Softball Team scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 9-6 win over Mississippi Valley State, here Monday afternoon at Scrap Yard Softball Complex.
 
Both team finished the contest with seven hits each.  In addition, both teams combined for five errors in the contest with MVSU tallying three and UAPB two.
 
UAPB was led by Makayla Hunter with two hits in three at-bats, scoring one runs and driving in two, while Ana Pahulu finished went two-for-three from the plate, scoring two runs and driving in four.
 
Hunter (1-5) received the win for the Lady Lions, just allowing two hits in her three innings of relief.  Makayla Hunter made the start for UAPB, allowing five hits, six earned runs and striking out one four innings of work.
 
Sydney Coe (0-7) received the loss for MVSU, allowing four hits, and striking out three in two innings of work.  Haley Young made the start for the Devilettes, allowing one hit, two earned runs and striking out three in two innings of work.  Also making an appearance on the mound for MVSU was Rebekah Clinton, allowing two hits and striking out three in two innings of work.
 
The Devilettes took a 6-2 lead in to the bottom of the fourth inning with MVSU scoring three runs in the first, two runs in the second and one run in the third inning, while UAPB scored one run in the bottom of the first and one in the bottom of the second inning.
 
UAPB claimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with a five-run inning.  Tonnay Hawkins scored the Lady Lions' first run of the inning on a MVSU throwing error, followed by a Hunter single to right field scoring Page Garcia.  Hunter then scored on a Jordan Foyer bases loaded walk. A Taiyler Clark single to left center field scoring both Shanice Murray and Monique Nikolao, giving UAPB a 7-6 lead.
 
The Lady Lions plated two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a MVSU infielder's fielding error for the 9-6 win.
