UAPB POWERS BY ALCORN STATE, 6-2

Box Score Conroe, Texas (March 24) -  The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Softball team scores four runs in the top of the seventh inning to propel them past Alcorn State 6-2, here Tuesday morning at the Scrap Yard Softball Complex.
 
UAPB is now 2-1 in the 2015 Southwestern Athletic Conference Softball round up and will take on Jackson State in their second game of the day.
 
The win brings UAPB to 2-1 in conference play and 3-19 overall, where Alcorn State drops to 0-3 in conference play and 2-12 overall.
 
The Lady Lions finished the contest with 10 hits, whereas Alcorn State punched out nine.  Also both teams finished combined for four errors with UAPB tallying three and ASU 1.
 
Jasmine Hardwrick led the Lady Lions from the plate with three hits in four at-bats and scoring two runs in the contest.
 
ASU had three players to finish with two hits each for the Lady Braves.
 
Hailey Forbes (2-5) received the win for UAPB, allowing nine hits, two earned runs and striking out six in the seven innings of work, while Jazmin Castillo received the loss for ASU, allowing 10 hits, five earned runs and striking out four in her seven innings in the circle.
 
UAPB jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with Toney Hawkins scoring on a Monique Nikolaos bases load hit-by-pitch.  Then two batters later, Hardwrick would score from third on a passed ball.
 
ASU tied the contest at 2-2 with the Lady Braves plating a run in the bottom of the fourth inning and another in the bottom of the sixth inning.
 
In the top seventh inning, UAPB plated four run in the inning for the 6-2 win.  Hawkins, led off the inning with a triple to left field, scored the Lady Lions first run of the inning on a Page Garcia double to left field.  Two batters later Shanice Murry   cleared the bases with a triple scoring both Hardwrick and Garcia.  Murry also scored on the same play advancing home from third as the ball was being thrown in from the outfield.
