Softball: Jackson State Claws UAPB, 13-4

LONGVIEW, Texas (March 23) - In their final game of the 2014 Southwestern Athletic Conference Softball Roundup, the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Softball team dropped a 13-4 decision to Jackson State, here Sunday afternoon at Lear Athletic Complex.

UAPB (5-22, 2-3 SWAC) recorded six hits in the contest with Kelsey Ridgeway going two-for-three from the plate to lead the Lady Lions, while JSU (12-22, 5-0 SWAC) tallied a game high 11 hits with Lyndsey Colvin going three-for-three from the plate, scoring two runs and driving in two runs.

Breea Jamerson (5-8) got the win for the Lady Tigers as she pitched three and two-thirds scoreless innings, allowing one hits and striking out two, whereas Sybill Lozano, the JSU starter went one and one-third innings, allowing five hits, four earned runs and striking out one in the 12 batters she faced.

Alexsis McCain (0-7) received the loss for the Lady Lions as she pitched four innings, allowing 11 hits, 11 earned runs and striking out two in the 30 batters she faced.

Ridgeway gave the Lady Lions a 2-0 lead in the top of the first with a double to left field scoring both Paige Garcia and Emilee Gywn.

JSU would respond in the bottom of the first inning as they turned seven hits, and two UAPB errors in 10 runs to take a 10-2 lead.

UAPB would two more runs in the top of the second inning as McCain scored on a Gywn single, followed by a Tiressa Jacobs' sacrifice fly to center field scoring Rolanda Murry, cutting the Lady Tigers' lead to 10-4.

The Lady Tigers would plate three more runs in the bottom of the second inning for the 13-4 win invoking the eight-run mercy rule.
