Softball: Lady Lions Split 1-1 on Day One of University Central Arkansas Invitational

Conway, AR. - The University of Arkansas Pine Bluff dropped their first game in University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears Invitational Tournament 9-3 to South Dakota State Jackrabbits.

The Jackrabbits (2-8) scored seven runs in the first five innings into the game led by KayCee Miller who went 2-2 with a solo homerun and Devan Larsen going 4-for-2.

The Lady Lions would answer back in the top of the sixth inning with two consecutive hits from Paige Garcia and Teresa Jacobs to put a runner on first and second. Both runners would advance to second and third off an error from South Dakota second baseman Devan Larsen. The Lions would capitalize off the mistake and score two runs off a single up the middle from Jasmine Hardwrick to make the score 7-2.

The Jackrabbits would tack on two more runs in the top of the sixth to hold on for the victory.

The Lady Lions (1-2) was led by Jasmine Hardwrick , Jordan Foyer, Teresa Jacob, Alexsis McCain, Deyla Jackson and Kendra Linn each had a hit apiece .

GAME 2
In the second contest the Lady Lions defeated Drexel Dragons 10-9.

Drexel would strike first jumping out to a 3-0 lead. UAPB would counter back with Jasmine Hardwrick getting on base off a field choice, followed by Emilee Gwyn walk, before being knocked in off a double from Delya Jackson to put the Lady Lions within three (5-2).

Midway through the game the Lady Lions offense got a spark from Jasmine Hardwrick who lined a triple down left field line collecting two RBI's, to open the flood gate scoring four runs in the inning.
Going into the final inning with the Lady Lions ahead (10-8), UAPB would hold Drexel to one run to hold on for the victory.

Lacie Satterfield picked up the win for UAPB, pitching 3.2 innings, allowing four hits and striking out five.
The Lady Lions will return to action as they faced Western Illinois at 9:00 A.M. and UCA at 3:45 P.M in day two of the tournament.
