#UAPBFOOTBALL: UAPB Names Pine Bluff Native Keith Scott Defensive Backs Coach and Special Teams Coordinator

PINE BLUFF, AR.- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff has named Keith Scott as Assistant Coach, Defensive Backs Coach, and Special Teams Coordinator, head football coach Alonzo Hampton announced.

A Pine Bluff native and former Golden Lion, Scott returns to UAPB with an extensive coaching résumé and a proven track record of developing high-performing defenses and impactful special teams units.

In his role, Scott will oversee all special teams operations while coaching the defensive backs. His responsibilities include coordinating special teams strategy, managing personnel across multiple units, and developing a disciplined, playmaking secondary. He will also contribute to defensive game planning, opponent analysis, and in-game adjustments.

Scott most recently served at Texas A&M-Kingsville as special teams coordinator and safeties coach, where he directed all special teams units while assisting in defensive preparation and expanding recruiting efforts across Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, and Mississippi.

Prior to that, Scott spent four seasons (2021–24) at the University of Central Arkansas, where he held multiple roles including assistant head coach, special teams coordinator, passing game coordinator, and defensive backs coach. During his tenure, UCA consistently ranked among the conference leaders in total defense, scoring defense, and special teams performance, earning top-25 national rankings in several special teams categories.

Scott also coached at Austin Peay State University (2019–20) as special teams coordinator and nickel backs coach. In his first season, he mentored All-American defensive back Kordell Jackson while helping the Governors rank among the top FCS programs in turnovers gained and total defense.

His coaching background includes three seasons at Eastern Illinois (2016–18), where he worked with linebackers and safeties, producing All-OVC performers and contributing to one of the conference's top pass defenses. He also served five seasons at the University of Arkansas-Monticello (2011–15) as defensive coordinator and assistant head coach, where his defenses led the Great American Conference in interceptions and pass defense while developing numerous all-conference and All-American players.

Scott previously coached at the University of Central Arkansas (2010) as defensive backs coach, leading the Southland Conference in pass defense and turnovers. He began his coaching career at Prairie View A&M (2005–07) as a graduate assistant before moving to Mississippi Valley State (2007–09), where he coached defensive backs and later served as defensive coordinator.

A former standout defensive back at UAPB, Scott was a three-year letterwinner and team captain for the Golden Lions. He earned his bachelor's degree from UAPB in 2005 and later completed a master's degree in education administration from Prairie View A&M.
