PINE BLUFF, AR. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff football program is gaining national recognition as the Golden Lions have entered the BOXTOROW HBCU FCS Coaches Poll at No. 10 following an impressive 31-28 road victory over Florida A&M on Saturday afternoon in Tallahassee, Florida.

UAPB received 27 points in the Week 8 poll, released following games played through October 24, marking the Golden Lions' first appearance in the Top 10 after being unranked the previous week.

The national recognition reflects the continued progress of the Golden Lions under fourth-year head coach Alonzo Hampton, whose team has improved to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play.

UAPB's latest victory came in a challenging road environment at Bragg Memorial Stadium, where the Golden Lions spoiled Florida A&M's Homecoming celebration with a hard-fought 31-28 win.

The Golden Lions delivered an impressive offensive performance, rushing for 211 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 4.6 yards per carry. UAPB outgained Florida A&M by 136 yards on the ground, demonstrating a physical rushing attack that played a significant role in securing the victory.

Quarterback
Jack Schierholz provided an efficient performance through the air, completing 13 of 19 passes for 140 yards and one touchdown to help guide the Golden Lions' offense.

Jalen Williams led the rushing attack with 66 yards and a touchdown, averaging 7.3 yards per carry. Za'Marion Webber added 60 rushing yards and another score, while wide receiver Demetric Whitlock Jr. contributed four receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Tylan Cole turned in an outstanding performance, finishing with five tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks. Robert Lewis added a sack and a tackle for loss to help lead the Golden Lions' defensive effort.

The victory over Florida A&M was another significant step forward for a UAPB program continuing to build momentum and establish itself as a competitive force in the SWAC.

The latest BOXTOROW rankings also highlight the strength of the conference, with seven SWAC programs represented in the Top 10.

Alabama A&M claimed the No. 1 ranking with 182 points and 14 first-place votes, followed by South Carolina State at No. 2 and Jackson State at No. 3. Bethune-Cookman and Alabama State rounded out the top five.

UAPB joined Prairie View A&M as the two newcomers to this week's rankings after both programs were unranked in the previous poll.

For the Golden Lions, breaking into the national Top 10 represents another milestone in the program's continued growth and reflects the commitment, preparation and determination displayed by the student-athletes and coaching staff.

The Golden Lions will look to carry their momentum into another highly anticipated SWAC showdown as No. 10 UAPB hosts No. 4 Bethune-Cookman on Saturday, October 31, at Simmons Bank Field in Pine Bluff. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT, with the game broadcast on SWAC TV.
