#UAPBFootball: Golden Lions Roar Past Southern, 41-10, Behind Complete Team Effort

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff used a dominant 299-yard performance on the ground and a complete effort in all three phases to pick up a 41-10 Southwestern Athletic Conference road victory over Southern Saturday night at A.W. Mumford Stadium.

The Golden Lions improved to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in SWAC play, while the Jaguars fell to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in conference action.

"This is the best win I've had since I've been a head coach," said UAPB head coach Alonzo Hampton. "We put it together as a whole unit, offense, defense and special teams. I'm proud of those guys."

Garrison Davis led the Golden Lions' passing attack, completing 15-of-22 passes for 154 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. The signal caller also made an impact with his legs, rushing for 92 yards on eight carries.

"Garrison is a football junkie," Hampton said. "He loves the game and loves getting better with his teammates. The sky is the limit for him."

Jalen Williams helped pace the Golden Lions' rushing attack with 78 yards on just three carries, averaging 26 yards per attempt. Za'Marion Webber added 59 yards on 10 carries, while Davis' 92 yards led the team.

Williams also made a major impact on special teams, finishing with three kickoff returns for 167 yards and consistently giving the Golden Lions excellent field position.

"That kid is special," Hampton said of Williams. "We have some really talented running backs, and we know what we can be as a football team."

Demetric Whitlock Jr. led the Golden Lions' receiving corps with eight catches for 94 yards and one touchdown. D'Avery Robinson added three receptions for 48 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Bryce Robinson hauled in a two-yard touchdown reception.

Defensively, the Golden Lions settled in after allowing 10 points in the opening quarter and shut Southern out over the final three periods. Raylen Spratt recorded three tackles and an interception, while Danarius Hilliard finished with five tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss and one sack. Tylan Cole added four tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss and one sack.

"At halftime, we said the score was 0-0, not 17-10," Hampton said. "Our guys went back out there, made the adjustments and played great."

Du'Wayne Paulhill led the Golden Lions with nine tackles, including 1.0 tackle for loss.

The Golden Lions put together a stellar performance on the ground, racking up 299 rushing yards while averaging 9.6 yards per carry and out-rushing Southern by 135 yards. Arkansas-Pine Bluff also converted 6-of-10 third-down attempts.
