The state of Alabama is the next stop for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's and men's basketball teams this weekend.
The UAPB teams will play a 2 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Alabama State and a 5 p.m. doubleheader Monday at Alabama A&M.

The Lady Lions (2-11 overall, 1-6 SWAC) fell Monday at Jackson State, but got strong performances from a pair of freshmen.
Maya Peat and
Ashlynn Green each posted double-digit scoring totals against JSU. Peat scored 10 points, her second-highest point total of the season, along with seven rebounds and three blocked shots in 22 minutes of action. Green had her third-highest scoring game of the season with 10 points, two rebounds and one steal in 20 minutes of play.
Alabama State (7-1, 7-1) is in a three-way tie for first place in the SWAC in the loss column with Jackson State (8-5, 7-1) and Alabama A&M (5-2, 3-1). The Lady Hornets' only loss was a 60-56 home loss to Southern on Jan. 25. Ayana Emmanuel (17.0 ppg / 3rd SWAC), Shmya Ward (16.8 ppg - 5th SWAC, 10.3 rpg - 3rd SWAC), and Jayla Crawford (12.4 ppg / 14th SWAC) lead Alabama St.

The UAPB men (3-14, 2-6) were locked in a second-half battle at Jackson State, with six lead changes and two ties over the final 20 minutes but could not overtake the Tigers.
Shaun Doss Jr. registered his fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Jalen Lynn scored 12 points off the bench, and
Joshuwan Johnson scored 11 points.
Markedric Bell added four points, eight rebounds, and six blocked shots.

Alabama State (2-7, 2-7) has posted league wins over Mississippi Valley State and Southern. and Southern (66-64). Brandon Battle (10.2 ppg, 7.0 rpg - 4th/SWAC) and Kenny Strawbridge (10.1 ppg, 7.6 rpg - 3rd /SWAC) lead the Hornets in scoring and rebounding.
