LORMAN, Miss. – The University of Arkansas At Pine Bluff women's and men's basketball teams will each look to split their Southwestern Athletic Conference opening road trip Monday at Alcorn.
The women's game will start at 1 p.m., with the men's game to follow at 3:30 p.m. The UAPB Sports Radio Network broadcast begins at 12:45 p.m. on 99.3 FM The Beat, online at uapblionsroar.com/live and on the free UAPB Athletics App.
Both UAPB teams are coming off Saturday losses at Southern. The Lady Lions fell 67-57, while the men lost 88-53.
In the women's contest,
Khadijah Brown led the way with 15 points and eight rebounds, and
Ashlynn Green came off the bench to add 11 points.
Trasity Totten scored eight points and had a season-high 10 rebounds and also added four assists and two steals.
The Lady Lions (2-8 overall, 1-3 SWAC) never led in the contest despite tying the game twice. UAPB trailed by one at halftime, but could not overtake Southern in the second half.
The Alcorn women (3-5, 3-1) have won back-to-back league games and is coming off a 68-53 home win over Mississippi Valley St. Kirdis Clark scored 16 points in the win and leads the Braves in scoring averaging just under 12 points per game.
On the men's side, UAPB is coming off an 88-53 loss at Southern. The Golden Lions (3-9, 2-1 SWAC) had two players score in double figures, led by
Shaun Doss Jr.'s 18 points along with three rebounds and two steals.
Joshuwan Johnson tacked on 16 points and was a perfect 11-of-11 at the free-throw line. After an early lead, the Golden Lions were unable to regain the lead and control of the contest.
Alcorn (1-6, 1-1) won its first game of the season Saturday, a 71-59 win over Miss. Valley St. Troymain Crosby scored a game-high 23 points in the win. He leads the Braves in scoring at 19.4 ppg to rank second in the SWAC just ahead of Doss' 18.6 ppg average.
