#UAPB Softball Season Recap

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball team was preparing for its conference opener on the road against Alcorn State before the COVID-19 pandemic would cancel the rest of the season for the Lady Lions.

The Lady Lions opened up playing their first 16 non-conference games on the road in four invitational tournaments before their home opener against Rust College canceled due to inclement weather.

UAPB will be returning preseason All-Conference Shanice Akins, along with 17 returnees from the 2020 squad to add to a talented recruiting class under the leadership of third-year head coach Michael Bumpers.

Before the season was canceled, UAPB finished third with a .257 batting average in the SWAC Conference.

Akins led the team at the plate and finished second in the conference batting .410, followed by Anne Gerwitz batting .389 and finishing fourth in the conference.

Freshman Samaria Jackson stepped up big for the Lady Lions in non-conference play.

Jackson led the team in home runs and finished tied for second in the conference with two against North Texas and Southern Miss.
