Basketball Teams Look To Bounce Back At Alcorn

LORMAN, Miss. – The University of Arkansas At Pine Bluff women's and men's basketball teams will complete a two-game road trip with a Monday night doubleheader at Alcorn.

The women's game will tip at 5:30 p.m., with the men's game around 8 p.m. The UAPB Sports Network broadcast begins at 5:15 p.m. with Lions Roar Pregame on 99.3 FM The Beat in Pine Bluff, online at uapblionsroar.com, and on the free UAPB Athletics App. Links for live stats and to watch are also available via uapblionsroar.com.

Both teams will look to bounce back from Saturday losses at Southern. The Lady Lions lost 85-61 to defending champion Southern, with UAPB led by Aiya El Hassan's first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Katherine Darden had a career-high 14 points along with seven rebounds, and Tyler Pyburn scored 13 and five rebounds.

The Alcorn women (10-14, 6-6) rallied to defeat Miss. Valley St. 63-60 on Saturday.  The Braves came into the weekend third in the SWAC in scoring (64.0 ppg), 8th in FG% (36.4), 4th in 3-pt FG% (29.0), 7th in FT% (61.8), and 5th in rebounds (35.5). Defensively, Alcorn is 6th in both ppg allowed (69.6 ppg) FG% (43.6), and 3rd in 3-pt FG% (29.6).
 
In the first meeting between the teams, Alcorn rallied to defeat UAPB 77-75 in the H.O. Clemmons Arena on January 20.

On the men's side, the Golden Lions will also look to gain a split of the two-game road trip after falling to Southern 73-49 Saturday night.

Zavian Jackson came off the bench to lead UAPB with 14 points. Marcus Wallace, Markedric Bell, and Jordan McNair each scored seven points for the Golden Lions.

Alcorn (11-12, 7-5) defeated Miss. Valley St. 90-86 in overtime Saturday night. The Braves came into the weekend leading the SWAC in scoring (76.3 ppg), 4th in FG% (42.8), 1st in 3-pt FG% (37.2), 1st in FT% (74.6), and 2nd in rebounds (38.0). Defensively, Alcorn is 8th in ppg allowed (73.7 ppg), 6th in FG% (45.2), and 9th in 3-pt FG% (34.7).
 
In the first meeting between the teams, Alcorn defeated UAPB 82-54 in the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
