Men's Basketball To Face #7 Wisconsin

11/26/2020 12:45:00 PM

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team will continue its five-game season-opening road trip Friday with an 8 p.m. game at #7 Wisconsin in a contest that will be televised live on the Big Ten Network.

A cold-shooting start from the field in the first half Wednesday night created a deficit too large to overcome for UAPB in a 99-57 loss at Marquette in the season-opener for both teams. The Golden Lions made just seven field goals in the first half but made more shots from the field (11) and free throw line (15) after halftime.

"We got off to a slow start in the first half, but we ended up playing a better second half," said Golden Lion head coach George Ivory. "I was very pleased with the effort the young men gave. They never quit."

Shaun Doss was the only Golden Lion in double figures with a career-high 27 points and had five rebounds. It was his eighth career 20-point scoring game, and his nine made field goals tied a career-high. Joshuwan Johnson scored seven points with six rebounds in his first start for UAPB, while Alvin Stredic Jr. posted career highs in points (six) and rebounds (six).

The Badgers opened the season with a 77-67 home win over Eastern Illinois Wednesday. Nate Reuvers led three players in double figures with team-highs in points (18) and rebounds (nine). Wisconsin went 21-10 and won the Big Ten Conference regular-season title last season and return their entire starting five and seven of their top eight scorers.

"Now we go and play the number seven team in the country," said Ivory of the Badgers. "I'm looking forward to our team improving at the free-throw line (18-26 vs. Marquette), guarding the three-point line better (allowed 10 made 3s), and reducing our turnovers (16)."
