UAPB Basketball Continue Road Trip at Prairie View

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's & women's basketball team will hit the road for a two-game road trip to Texas to face Prairie View A&M Saturday and Texas Southern Monday. 
 
The doubleheader is set for 3 p.m. with the women's game, followed by the men's game at 5:30 p.m. The UAPB Sports Network will have the live broadcast starting at 2:30 p.m. on 99.3 FM The Beat, online at uaplionsroar.com, and on the free UAPB Athletics app.  
 
Both programs are looking to keep up the streak, where every conference team won on the road last weekend.   
 
UAPB (3-12, overall 2-3 SWAC) dropped a hard-fought game to Alcorn St. 77-75. The Lady Lions will look to get their second conference win on the road against the Lady Panthers. 
 
"Prairie View A&M record doesn't define who they are as a team," said first-year UAPB head coach Dawn Brown. They are a really tough team and this will be a good matchup for our ladies. I tell the ladies all the time our defense is our offense, but we just got to play a complete game to give ourselves a chance to win on the road." 
 
In the matchup against Alcorn St., UAPB had four players score in double figures, led by Kyeonia Harris, who had 20 points and six rebounds. Noe'll Taylor added 16 points, eight rebounds and four steals, and Aiya El Hassan chipped in as well with 12 points and five assists. 
 
Harris ranks 12th in the conference in scoring, averaging 10.5 ppg. Harris also ranks fifth in the conference in assists, averaging 3.1 apg, and 11th in the conference in steals, averaging 2.0 spg. Freshman Nissa Sam-Grant tied for third in the conference in blocks, averaging 1.4 blkpg., and ninth in the conference in rebounds, averaging 5.3 rpg. 
 
Prairie View (4-13 overall, 1-4 SWAC) enters this weekend match, coming off a 53-49 defeat to Jackson St. The Lady Panthers is led by Bernesha Peters who leads the team in scoring, averaging 10.5 ppg., and Ke'Asia Williams who leads the team in rebounds, averaging 5.8 rpg. 
 
On the men's side, the Golden Lions (3-14, 2-3 SWAC) is looking to bounce back and pick up a big road win over Prairie View A&M after an 82-54 loss to Alcorn St. 
 
"Prairie View A&M is going to press and get after you," said UAPB head coach George Ivory. We got to stick to our game plan and play defense, and we'll give our chance to win."
 
 
In the matchup versus Alcorn St., the Golden Lions had two players score in double figures led by Artavious McDyess, who had 12 points. Marquell Carter tacked on 11 points, and three steals and Markedric Bell added nine points, six rebounds, and two steals.
 
Defensively the Golden Lions holds their opponents to 71.6 ppg, which ranks fourth in the conference. Bell, who leads the team in scoring, ranks 15th in the conference in scoring, averaging 10.3 ppg, 15th in rebounds, averaging 5.2 rpg, and fourth in blocked shots, averaging 1.0 bpg. Junior Dequan Morris ranks second in the conference in steals, averaging 1.9 spg., along with senior Marqull Carter, who ranks 10th in the conference in rebounds, averaging 5.9 rpg. 
 
Praire View (8-10 overall, 3-1 SWAC enters the contest this weekend coming off a 74-60 over Jackson St. The Panthers is led by Gerard Andrus, who leads the team in scoring averaging 14.2 ppg, and Lennell Henry, who leads the team in rebounds, averaging 6.3 rpg.
