The Golden Lions will look to bounce back from Wednesday's 72-39 loss at Tulsa. Despite the cold-shooting night for UAPB, there were solid performances in the contest.

Zavian Jackson came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points as the only Golden Lion in double figures. Markedric Bell had eight points and six rebounds, and Terrance Banyard in his first game action in more than two weeks due to injury, was able to play 16 minutes. Artavious McDyess played a season-high 31 minutes and scored two points with four rebounds and posted career highs in both blocked shots (four) and steals (three).

"We got good production from Zavian," said UAPB head coach George Ivory. "He came in and did a great job of facilitating the team and scoring. McDyess played a pretty good game as well, and we were happy to get these two guys on the trip and get contributions. We're still working on rotations this time of the year and we'll get better as we get our combinations together."

The Miners (5-1) of Conference USA are coming off their first loss of the season. Bryson Williams leads UTEP in scoring (19.5 ppg) and rebounding (7.2 rpg).

"They have a really good big man in Williams (who stands 6-foot-8), and their guards are really solid," Ivory said. "However, their big man is their main focus, and our bigs will have their hands full in guarding him. Our challenge will also be tempo. At times, we're playing too fast in committing turnovers in trying to make things happen. We have to slow down and make better decisions and solid passes in running our offense."
