Men's Basketball To Play Home Opener Vs. Champion Christian

11/24/2019 2:30:00 PM

The University of Arkansas At Pine Bluff men's basketball team will open its 2019-20 home schedule Monday in a 7:30 p.m. game against Champion Christian in the H.O. Clemmons Arena.

Monday's game is part of a free doubleheader that begins at 6 p.m. with the final fall edition of the Lions Roar All Access radio show live from the auditorium inside the arena. Golden Lion Nation is encouraged to come out to hear from head football coach Cedric Thomas' on Saturday's win over Texas Southern and recap the 2019 football season prior to the men's basketball game.

The UAPB Sports Network will have a live radio broadcast of the coaches show and the game on 99.3 FM The Beat, online at uapblionsroar.com, and on the free UAPB Athletics App.

Men's basketball (0-5) has again played a tough non-conference schedule to begin the season in games at South Florida (70-41), #8 Gonzaga (110-60), Grand Canyon (67-54), Kansas State (62-51), and Pittsburgh (66-41).

This season's squad is developing a toughness early in the season, highlighted by outrebounding both Grand Canyon (35-33) and Pittsburgh (39-33) while being virtually even in rebounding at Kansas State (34-35).

A pair of players had career-high games at K-State and Pitt last week. Marquell Carter scored a career-best 22 points along with a season-high nine points last Tuesday against Kansas St. In Thursday's game at Pittsburgh, Markedric Bell had career highs in points (21) and rebounds (six).

Bell is averaging 9.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, while Carter is averaging 8.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Dequan Morris leads the team in assists (nine) and steals (10) while averaging 7.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.

Champion Christian (2-1) is based in Hot Springs, Ark. and is a member of the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association.
