3rd straight SWAC win for UAPB with 8-5 victory over Valley behind Humphrey's 2 HR's

Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. - Arkansas-Pine Bluff poured in seven runs in the third inning en route to an 8-5 victory over Mississippi Valley in Southwestern Athletic Conference play at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex. The win marks the third victory in a row for the Lady Lions softball team.

After giving up a quick run to Mississippi Valley in the opening inning, UAPB answered back with a solo home run from catcher Dominique Humphrey in the bottom of the second. Mississippi Valley regained the lead with another run in the third with an RBI-single to right field. However, in the third inning, the Lady Lions got hot from behind the plate and produced a total of seven runs, including another home run from Humphrey, this time in grand slam fashion as she brought in Kameron Graham, Kayla Ross and Alexandria Taylor. Moments prior, Ta'Lyn Moody got on base with a single, stole second base, then advanced to third on an error. She was then was brought home as teammate Shanice Akins produced an RBI-single to left field. Akins later touched home plate as a result of Graham being hit by a pitch. Before the end of the inning, Moody returned to the plate for yet another at bat as she produced an RBI-single to center field which scored fellow Lady Lion Tonnay Hawkins and brought the score to 8-2 in favor of UAPB.

The Devilettes made a late push and scored three late runs, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Lions held on for the 8-5 victory. Both teams finished the game with nine hits each.

Humphrey finished 2-for-3 from the plate with two home runs and a game-high five RBI as UAPB advances to 3-1 in conference play.

Lady Lions pitcher Angelique Ramos (3-6) was credited with the win and gave up four earned runs in seven innings pitched while Andrea Elmore (0-4) picked up the loss for Mississippi Valley. The win marks Ramos' third victory of the season.

UAPB (6-15, 3-1 SWAC) returns to action on Saturday, March 24 as it hosts Mississippi Valley (6-17, 2-1 SWAC) in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12 noon at Torii Hunter Softball Complex.
