Golden Lions miss opportunity to rise to top of the SWAC with 51-48 loss to Jackson State

Box Score JACKSON, Miss. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions had a golden opportunity to go back to first place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference with a victory over Jackson State, but simply could not get it done on the road with a 51-48 loss at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center. The loss keeps UAPB just one game back behind Grambling with one game left to play in the regular season for the Golden Lions.

UAPB (11-19, 11-6 SWAC) was led by Travon Harper who finished with a team-high 10 points and nine rebounds while teammate Christian Robertson scored eight points and made all four free throws. Martaveous McKnight struggled from the floor and shot 2-for-7 from the field, finishing with just seven points and six turnovers in the loss.

As a team the Golden Lions hit a total of just 16 baskets and shot 39 percent from the field while its opponent made just one more basket and shot just 30 percent from the field. UAPB lost the rebound battle 37-32 and shot 11-for-16 from the charity stripe while Jackson State ony missed two free throws all night (13-of-15).

Jackson State (12-17, 9-7 SWAC) was led by Paris Collins who finished with 17 points, eight rebounds and four steals in the win.

Quamauri Hardy chipped in with eight points and missed just one shot from the floor, hitting 3-of-4 from the field. Jackson State scored 20 points off of 19 UAPB turnovers.

UAPB returns to action on Saturday, March 3 as it hosts Mississippi Valley State University in SWAC action on Senior Night. The game has been dubbed a "White Out" as fans are encouraged to wear white. On New Year's Day, the Golden Lions defeated Valley 80-71 for its first conference win of the year.
