UAPB softball team splits doubleheader with CBC

Box Score CONWAY, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions softball team recently split a doubleheader in non-conference action against Central Baptist College. In game one, the Lady Lions gave up four runs in the opening inning en route to a 13-5 loss against the Mustangs. UAPB managed to score four runs in the third inning behind a grand slam from Kayla Ross, which brought in outfielders Shanice Akins, Ta'Lyn Moody and Tonnay Hawkins, but the comeback was halted short after giving up six runs in the fourth inning.

Karia Beth Hall was credit with the loss.

In game two of the doubleheader, UAPB (3-3) was victorious 7-1. UAPB's leadoff batter Hawkins scored a run in the opening inning to crank things off. In the second inning, third baseman Kameron Graham produced a triple and eventually scored, giving the Lady Lions a 2-0 cushion.

After both teams traded runs, the bats came to life in the sixth inning for UAPB. Graham launched a solo home run to start the scoring spree, then later in the inning, Hawkins doubled to shallow left center which brought it Ann Jones. After a pitching change for the Mustangs, Akins scored off of a Moody ground out. Hawkins eventually scored for the Lady Lions following an outfield error by CBC which brought the score to 7-1.

Angelique Ramos picked up the win for UAPB, who improved to 3-3 on the year.

The UAPB softball team returns to action on Friday, Februry 23 in the University of Central Arkansas Softball Tournament in Conway. Game one is against South Dakota State University at 1:30 p.m. followed by game two against the tourney host UCA at 6 p.m. Both games will be played at Bear Stadium on the campus of UCA.
