UAPB HOLDS OFF SOUTHERN FOR 68-61 WIN
Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Feb. 11) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Men's Basketball team defeated Southern University, 68-61 for their second straight win, here Saturday night at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
 
UAPB (7-19, 6-6 SWAC) was led by Trent Steen with a game high 20 points to lead all scorers, whereas Jaquan Lynch added 11 to round out the cast of double-digit performers.  Devin Berry led the Golden Lions on the boards with five rebounds.
 
SU (11-14, 7-5 SWAC) had three players to score in double-figures with both Shawn Prudhomme and Jared Sam finishing with 16 points apiece, while Trelun Banks added 12 to complete the cast of double-digit performers.   Sam led the Jaguars in rebounding with seven.
 
UAPB led by as many as nine points in the first half with the Golden Lions taking a 24-15 lead on a Deshon Bayless put back with 6:33 to go.
 
SU cut UAPB's lead to 31-28 on a Sam put back with 49 seconds left before intermission capping a 13-7 run by the Jaguars.
 
UAPB went into the intermission with a 33-29 lead over SU. The Golden Lions finishing the first half shooting 58.3 percent (14-of-24), whereas SU shot 32.1 percent (9-of-28).
 
The Golden Lions opened the second half with an 8-5 run to take a 41-34 lead on a pair of Steen free throws with 16:04 to go.
 
SU cut UAPB's lead to 48-46 on a Banks free throw with 8:49 remaining, capping a 12-7 run by the Jaguars.
 
The Golden Lions outscored the Jaguars, 20-17 in the final eight minutes of play for the 68-61 finale.
 
UAPB finished the contest shooting 46.9 percent (23-of-49), whereas SU shot 37.3 percent (19-of-51).
