Box Score Honolulu, Hawaii - In its second game of the season, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions fell to Troy University 81-57 in game two of the Outrigger Resorts Rainbow Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center. UAPB saw much improvement in game three but still fell 80-71 against North Dakota.
Subsequently, Itawamba Community College transfer shooting guard Martaveous McKnight was the only Golden Lions player to be named to the All-Tournament team. In the season opener against Hawaii, he finished with 25 points and shot 8-for-9 from the charity stripe. In game two against Troy, McKnight finished with eight points and was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. In game three against North Dakota, he finished with a game-high 30 points and grabbed seven boards in the loss.
The Golden Lions (0-3) trailed by just 10 points at the half but gave up 50 second-half points to Troy, who shot over 50 percent from the field compared to just 30 percent for UAPB. The Golden Lions missed only five free throws all night but had trouble from behind the arc, nailing just 7-of-26 three-pointers.
In the game vs. Troy, Charles Jackson tied a game-high with four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points for UAPB, who fell to 0-3 on the season after its loss to North Dakota. Travon Harper chipped in with 11 points on the evening and grabbed three boards.
Troy finished the game with a total of five scorers in double figures and enjoyed 30 points in the paint while the Golden Lions finished with 18. Troy's bench was able to be the difference in the game, outscoring UAPB's bench 35-20.
The Golden Lions basketball team returns to action on Saturday, November 18 as it faces Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Moody Coliseum.
