Box Score GRAMBLING, La. (Jan. 28) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Men's Basketball team dropped a 61-53 decision to Grambling State, here Saturday afternoon at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
UAPB (5-17, 4-4 SWAC) was led by
Trent Steen with 13 points, followed by
Jaquan Lynch with nine, and
Travon Harper with eight.
Ghiavonni Robinson led the Golden Lions on the boards with seven rebounds.
GSU (9-12, 4-4 SWAC) was led by Remond Brown with 17 points, followed by Ervin Mitchell with 15 and Nigel Ribeiro with 10. Avery Ugba led the Tigers on the boards with 11.
UAPB grabbed an early 6-2 lead on a Harper free throw with 17:28 to go in the first half.
GSU went on an 11-4 run to take a 13-10 lead on Brown jumper with 12:04 remaining in the half. The Tigers outscored the Golden Lions, 12-8 in the final eight minutes to take a 25-18 lead into the break.
UAPB finished the first half shooting 43.8 percent (7-of-16), whereas GSU shot 30.8 percent (8-of-26).
The Golden Lions opened the second half with a 13-3 run to take a 31-28 lead on a Lynch free throw with 12:16 to go in the contest.
GSU tied the score at 37-37 on a three pointer by Nigel Ribeiro with 8:55 remaining in the contest, capping a 9-6 run by the Tigers.
The Tigers then extended their lead to 54-48 on an Ugba free throw with 3:55 remaining, and the Tigers would hold on for the 61-53 win.
UAPB finished the contest shooting 41.5 percent (17-of-41), while GSU shot 36.2 percent (17-of-47).
The Golden Lions will return to action on Monday, January 30 in a 7:30 p.m. contest against Jackson State in Jackson, Miss., at the Lee Williams Assembly Center.
