UAPB EXTENDS WIN STREAK TO THREE

Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Jan. 9) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Men's Basketball team wins their third straight as the Golden Lions defeated Alabama A&M, 81-65 here Monday at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
 
UAPB (4-13, 3-0) was paced by Trent Steen scoring a team high 15 points on seven-for-10 shooting from the field.  The Golden Lions had three players to score in double-figures with Kennedy McKinney scoring 14 points from off the bench, followed by Travon Harper with 13 and Ghiavonni Robinson with 12.  Both Harper and McKinney finished with six rebounds apiece to lead UAPB on the boards and JoeRandle Toliver led the team in assists with five.
 
AAMU (3-13, 1-3 SWAC) was paced by Quinterian McConico with 19 points and seven rebounds.  Both Rakiya Battle and De'Ederick Petty finished with nine points apiece for the Bulldogs, while Battle led the team in assists with five.
 
In a first half that saw nine ties and lead changes, UAPB went into the break with a 37-34 lead at the break.  The Golden Lions finished the first half shooting 51.6 percent (16-of-31), while the Bulldogs shot 50.0 percent (12-of-24).
 
The Golden Lions opened the second half with a 10-3 run to take a 47-37 lead on a Steen three-point play with 15:33 remaining in the contest.   UAPB then extended their lead to 70-53 on a Jaquan Lynch three pointer with 7:20 left in the half.
 
UAPB finished the contest shooting 51.6 percent (32-of-62), while AAMU shot 44.4 percent (20-of-45).  The Golden Lions held the rebounding margin over the Bulldogs, 33-32.   UAPB was able to convert 21 points on 12 steals, recorded 38 bench points and scored 28 points in the paint.
 
The Golden Lions will return to action on Saturday, January 14 against Southern University in a 5:30 p.m. start at the F.G. Clark Activity Center in Baton Rouge, La.
 
Notes:  UAPB is off to their best conference start since the 2012-13 season, when the Golden Lions won their first three SWAC contests of the season.  UAPB the 2012-13 season with a 15-3 mark in conference play.
