In the first half, UAPB grabbed an early 7-4 lead on a
JoVaughn Love jumper with 16:36 to go in the first half.
AAMU regained the lead with a 9-2 run, capped off by a pair of Nicholas West free throws with 13:01 remaining.
Trent Whiting tied the contest at 16-16 for UAPB with his three pointer at the 11:45 mark.
The Golden Lions outscored the Bulldogs 17-13 in the final 10 minutes of the half to take a 33-29 lead into the break.
UAPB finished the first half shooting 46.2 percent (12-of-26), whereas AAMU shot 32.0 percent (8-of-25).
In the second half, UAPB led by many as six points on two occasions with the Golden Lions taking a 35-29 lead at the 19:27 mark and a 50-44 lead at the 6:21 mark.
AAMU tied the contest at 52-52 with an 8-2 run on a pair of three pointers by Ladarius Tabb at the 6:06 mark and again at the 5:15 mark.
In the final five minutes, AAMU outscored UAPB, 9-1 for the 61-53 win.
UAPB finished the contest shooting 39.6 percent (19-of-48) from the field, while AAMU shot 32.7 percent (16-of-49).
AAMU (11-17) was paced by Ladarius Tabb with 17 points and seven rebounds, followed by Nicholas West with 14 points and nine boards. Rakiya Battle led the Bulldogs in assists with eight.
UAPB (8-25) was led by Love with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while
Marquis Cunningham finished with 12.
