TENNESSEE-MARTIN HOLDS OFF UAPB FOR 73-68 WIN

Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Dec. 1) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Men's Basketball Team rally came up short in a 73-68 loss to the University of Tennessee-Martin, here Thursday night at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
 
UAPB jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first half on back-to-back three pointers by JoeRandle Toliver with 18:23 to go.
 
UTM used a 12-0 run to take a 12-6 lead with the Skyhawks converting a three-point play and nailing their third straight three pointer by Matthew Butler  with 16:27 to go in the half.
 
Trent Steen tied the contest at 12-12 on a pair of made free throws at the 14:58 mark.
 
UTM then used a 6-2 run to break the tie to take an 18-14 lead on a Butler three pointer at the 14:01 mark. 
 
The Golden Lions then used a 6-2 run of their own to take a 22-20 lead on a Jaquan Lynch three pointer with 8:25 remaining in the half.
 
UTM regained the lead with an 11-2 run to take a 31-24 lead on a Malik London dunk with 5:47 remaining.
 
The Golden Lions responded with a 14-7 run to take a 38-37 lead into the break with UAPB finishing the first half shooting 38.7 percent (12-of-31), while UTM shot 54.2 percent (13-of-24).
 
In the second half, the Skyhawks took a 55-46 lead on a Jalen Jackson three pointer with 10:17 to go in the contest.
 
The Golden Lions pulled within one point on a Kennedy McKiney jumper with 1:32 to go in the contest cutting UTM's lead to 66-65.
 
UTM in the final 22 seconds of the contest went seven-for-eight from the charity stripe to hold on for the 73-68 win.
 
UAPB finished the contest shooting 38.3 percent (23-of-60), while UTM shot 54.3 percent (25-of-46).  The Golden Lions held the rebounding edge over the Skyhawks, 37-32.  UAPB from behind the three point arc went 12-of-28, whereas UTM finished the contest eight-of-21.
 
UTM(7-2)  had a trio of players to finish in double-digit scoring with Kedar Edwards scoring a game high 25 points, followed by Fatodd Lewis with 14 and Matthew Butler with 13.  Lewis led the Skyhawks on the boards with eight and Malik Pugh led the team in assists with six.
 
UAPB (1-6) had two player to score in double-figures with Toliver scoring a team high 19 points and Ghiavonni Robinson finishing with 14.  Travon Harper led UAPB on the boards with eight and McKinney pulled down seven. 
 
The Golden Lions will return to action on December 3 against Central Michigan University in a 3:30 p.m. EST start in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
