PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Nov. 4) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Men's Basketball team rolled to a 99-56 win over Champion Christian College in exhibition play, here Friday night at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
UAPB finished with five Golden Lions in double-digit scoring with
Kennedy McKinney finished with a team high 17 points.
Ghiavonni Robinson finished with 14, followed by
Travon Harper with 13 and both
Trent Steen and
Devin Berry with 11 point apiece. Steen was the high man on the boards with a team high eight, while
Charles Jackson finished with team high six assists.
Champion Christian had two Tigers to finish in double-digit scoring with Cody Connor finishing with a team high 11 points and Darius Boggas with 10. Damian McDowell led the team on the boards with seven, while Quincy McDaniel led the team in assists with five.
In the first half, CCC jumped out to a 6-0 lead on back-to-back three pointers by Kevin Rudd and Boggas.
UAPB regained the lead with a 7-0 run on a three pointer by
Jaquan Lynch and baskets by Steen and Harper, giving the Golden Lions a 7-6 lead with 17:07 left in the first.
CCC would take the lead once more in the first half on a Connor put back at the 9:51 marking giving the Tigers, a 21-20 lead. The Tigers then extended their lead to 26-22 on a LaMarcus Gulley tip-in at the 7:11 mark.
UAPB regained the lead on a Robinson layup with 6:31 remaining in the half, making the score 27-26 in favor of the Golden Lions.
The Golden Lions closed out the first half with a 16-6 run to take a 43-32 lead into halftime.
UAPB finished the first half shooting 48.6 percent (18-of-37), while CCC shot 40.0 percent (12-of-30).
In the second half, UAPB increased their lead to 74-44 on a JoeRandle Toliver dunk with an 8:32 left in the contest with the Golden Lions outscoring the Tigers 56-24 in the second half for the 99-56 win.
UAPB will kick off their 2016-17 campaign on Friday, November 11 against UAB at Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Ala., in a 7 p.m. start.
