Box Score GREENWOOD, Miss. (March 6) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Men's Basketball team ended their 2014-2015 season with a 94-75 win over Mississippi Valley State at the Leflore County Civic Center.
It was a special day for
Marcel Mosley as he finished the contest scoring a career high 34 points and scoring his 1,000
th career point. Mosley finishes his career at UAPB with 1,019 career points and he topped his previous season high of 33 points against the University of Houston earlier in the season.
Mosley finished the contest with 13 made field goals in 20 attempts, and went eight-for-13 from behind the three point arch.
UAPB jumped out to a 6-0 lead on back-to-back three pointer by Mosley and
JoVaughn Love with 18:59 left in the first.
UAPB finished the contest shooting 58.6 percent (17-of-29) from behind the three point arch.
MVSU used a 7-0 run to take a 7-6 leads on an Isaac Williams three pointer with 17:08 remaining.
A layup by
Tevin Hammond put the Golden Lions ahead 16-9 with 12:26 to go, capping a 10-2 run by UAPB. Then UAPB extended their lead to 29-21 on a Mosley three pointer with 5:50 to go.
The Golden Lions and the Delta Devils traded baskets in the final five minutes of half with UAPB going into the break leading MVSU 41-33.
UAPB finished the first half, scoring 10 points in the paint, 10 points off turnovers, five second chance points, two fast break points and five bench points.
MVSU in the half scored eight points in the paint, 12 points off turnovers, two second chance points, two fast break points and three bench points.
The Golden Lions finished the first half shooting 53.6 percent (15-of-28), while the Delta Devils shot 52.2 percent (12-of-23).
UAPB opened the second half with a 9-3 run to take a 50-35 lead on a
Ghiavonni Robinson three pointer. Then the Golden Lions extended their lead to 65-47 on a Hammond three pointer with 10:39 to in the second.
In the final 10 minutes MVSU outscored UAPB 28-27 with UAPB holding on for the 94-75 win.
UAPB finished the contest shooting 58.6 percent (34-of-58), while MVSU shot 47.5 percent (28-of-59).
MVSU (6-22, 5-10 SWAC) had three players to finish in double-figures with Jeffrey Simmons scoring a team high 22 points, followed by Williams with 16 and Ben Milshtein with 10. DeAngelo Priar led the Delta Devils on the boards with six, while Simmons dished out a team high six assists.
UAPB (12-20, 9-8 SWAC) had two more players to score in double-figures with Robinson scoring 16 points, and Hammond with 13. Love and Thaddeus Handley led UAPB on the boards with seven boards each for the Golden Lions. Also Hammond dished out a team high five assists.
