GOLDEN LIONS FALLS TO ALABAMA STATE, 73-55

Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Feb. 7) - Alabama State completed their regular season sweep of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Men's Basketball team with a 73-55 win over the Golden Lions here Saturday afternoon at the Oliver-Dunn Acadome.

In the first period of play, ASU jumped out to a 7-2 lead on a Jamel Waters jumper with 15:57 to go in the first.

UAPB countered with an 8-5 run to cut the Hornets' lead to 12-10, capped off by a Devin Berry dunk at the 12:26 mark of the half.

The Hornets extended their lead to 21-10 with an 11-0 run capped off by a made free throw by Brandon Graham with 9:29 remaining.

UAPB finished the first half shooting 38.1percent (8-of-21), while ASU shot 40.9 percent (9-of-22)  as the Golden Lions went into the break trailing the Hornets,  36-23.

ASU opened the second half of play with an 8-2 run to take a 44-25 lead on a Chidozie Omile layup at the 17:20 of the half.

UAPB pulled within 10 points with an 18-9 run cutting the Hornets' lead to 56-46 with 6:18 left in regulation.

But would be closes as the Golden Lions would get as ASU went on to win the contest 72-55 as they outscored UAPB 17-9 in the final six minutes of play.

The Golden Lions finished the contest shooting 39.1 percent (18-of-46), while the Hornets shot 48.8 percent (20-of-41).

UAPB (7-17, 4-6 SWAC) was led by Tevin Hammond with a team high 15 points, followed by a Devin Berry with eight.

ASU (13-6, 9-1 SWAC) had three Hornets to score in double-figures with Waters scoring a team high 15 points, followed by DeMarcus Robinson with 13 and Maurice Strong with 11.   Luther Page led the team on the boards with eight.

UAPB will return action on Monday, February 9 as they will travel to Normal, Ala., to take on Alabama A&M in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
