Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Feb. 17) - JoVaugn Love records his third double-double of the season for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Men's Basketball Team in a 74-70 win over Alcorn State, here Tuesday night at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
The contest was originally scheduled for Monday, but do to freezing rain and ice received early Monday morning, the contest was rescheduled for Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
A pair of made free throws by Reginald Johnson gave ASU an early 6-4 lead with 14:38 remaining in the first.
Trent Whiting tied the contest at 6-6 with his made jumper with 14:14 left in the first.
Tamarcio Wilson gave the Braves a 15-11 lead with his made jumper at the 9:28 mark of the first half.
UAPB tied the contest at 19-19 on a Whiting jumper with 4:40 left to go, capping a 7-4 by the Golden Lions.
ASU ended the first half with a 7-2 run to take a 26-19 lead into the break.
UAPB finished the first half shooting 42.9 percent (9-of-21), while ASU shot 37.0 percent (10-of-37).
The Braves opened the second half with a 9-5 run to take a 35-24 lead with 17:36 remaining in regulation, capped off by a Tyrel Hunt field goal.
UAPB countered with a 13-2 run to tie the contest at 37-37 on a
Ghiavonni Robinson three pointer with 14:32 left in regulation.
Another Robinson three pointer put the Golden Lions ahead 51-45 with 9:03 left in regulation.
UAPB then extended their lead to 58-48 with a pair of made free throws by Thaddeus Handley with 7:01 remaining in the contest.
ASU outscored UAPB 11-5 in the final 1:39 of regulation as UAPB held on for the 74-70 win.
The Golden Lions finished the contest shooting 51.0 percent (26-of-51), while ASU shot 42.2 percent (27-of-64).
UAPB(9-18, 6-7 SWAC) was paced by Love, who scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds from off the bench for the Golden Lions.
Tevin Hammond added 13, followed by Handley with 12 and
Trent Whiting with 10.
ASU (5-20, 4-9 SWAC) was led by LeAntwan Luckett with 21 points, followed by Johnson with 16 and Michael Davis with 10. Marquis Vance led the Braves the boards with eight and dished out five assists.
The Golden Lions will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 23 as they will travel to Houston, Texas to take on Texas Southern in a 7:30 p.m. start at the H&PE Arena.
