Box Score Ames, IA - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team came up short against the No.4 rank team in the country, Iowa St. Cyclones despite a late comeback attempt, falling 78-64 at the Hilton Coliseum on Sunday afternoon, in front of a crowd over 14,000.

JoVaughn Love finished in double-digits for the sixth time this season, ending the day with a game-high 13 points, including one pointer, while adding six rebounds.

Ghiavonni Robinson registered with team high 15 points, three steals, three assist and pulling down a game-high eight rebounds.

Thaddeus Handley, Jr. added nine points, with two steals, and junior
Jaquan Lynch chipped in eight points, posted two steals, two assists, and shooting two-for- three from behind the arch.

Iowa St. race out to a 7-0 run to start the game , but the Cyclone soon built a nine-point lead to take a 12-3 advantage with 15:09 left to play in the first half. The Golden Lions stepped it up in the paint, with two consecutive dunks by
Deshon Bayless and
Thaddeus Handley, Jr., to cut the lead to four 15-11 with just over ten minutes in the half.

The Cyclones proceeded to claim the lead once again, going on run to secure the largest lead of the game at the time, 39-27, heading into the final minute of the first half. Â UAPB would cut the lead to single digit (39-30) off 3- pointer from Handley.

The Golden Lions cut the Cyclones lead down to eight, 52-44, at the 14:09 mark of the second half with another 3-pointer by Love. The Cyclones, however, didn't let up, maintaining a steady lead heading into the last 10 minutes of the game.

AÂ fast break dunk by Love brought the Golden Lions back within eight at the 11:04 mark, 60-52, but the Cyclones continued to answer from the arc, sealing a 3-pointers within less than 45 seconds off the clock to bring Iowa St. a 63-52 lead and as the clock dwindle in the home team's favor sealing the victory for Iowa St.

UAPB defense stepped it up heading into the final minutes, reducing the Iowa St. scoring in the second half, being outscored (39-34, compared to the first half 39-30).  The Golden Lions played at times as well as they have all season, and some defensive lapses kept Iowa State from making the kind of big run and causing the Cyclones to commit 13 turnovers.
UAPB out hustle the Cyclones on the board, out rebound their opponent 36-29, with UAPB snatching 11 offensive boards to Iowa St. five, UAPB scored 38 points in paint compared to Iowa St. 28, UAPB benched stepped up this game contributing 21 points to Iowa St. 13.
Getting to the charity stripes and shooting from behind the arch was a big difference in the game. Iowa went to the line 14 times connecting on 12, compared to UAPB shooting 2-for-6. From behind the arch the Cyclones was 12-for-24 compared to the Golden Lions 6-for-20.
UAPB will be back in action on the road, as the team travel to the Leavey Center in Santa Clara, California to play against the Broncos Tuesday December 16, 2015 at 7 p.m. pacific time
