UAPB falls to Texas Southern in SWAC doubleheader

HOUSTON (April 19)  - Texas Southern completed their sweep of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Softball Team as they Lady Tigers won game one 7-3 and 9-1 in game two, here Saturday afternoon at Memorial Park.
In game one, UAPB out hit TSU, 11-9.
 
The Lady Lions were led by Kendra Linn as she tallied three hits in four at-bats, scoring one run and driving in two.  In addition, both Paige Garcia and Roland Murry finished the contest with two hits apiece for UAPB.
 
TSU was led by Anisha Richardson as she went two-for-three from the plate, scoring two runs and driving in two runs in the contest.
 
The Lady Tigers plated two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead.
 
UAPB cut TSU's lead to 2-1 in the top of the third on Linn single scoring Murry.
 
TSU added to their lead in the bottom of the third innings with three runs to make the score 5-1 in favor of the Lady Tigers.  The Lady Tigers plated two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-1 lead.
 
UAPB plated two runs in the top of the seventh inning on a Linn single scoring Delya Jackson and then Linn would score on a Garcia single for the 7-3 finale.
 
Sammantha Jimenez picked up the win for the Lady Tigers as she pitched five and one-third innings, allowing seven hits, one earned runs and striking out four in the 24 batters she faced, while Alexsis McCain received the loss for the Lady Lions as she pitched one inning, allowing two hits and two earned runs.
 
In game two, TSU pounded out nine hits, whereas UAPB tallied two hits.
 
Both Murry and Kelsey Ridgeway finished the contest with a hit each to lead the Lady Lions, whereas both Briana Parker and Chelsea Guenther finished with two hits apiece to lead the Lady Tigers.
 
Lacie Sutterfield   received the loss for UAPB as she faced 28 batters, allowing nine hits, and eight earned runs in five innings of work, while Madison Staton picked up the win as she yielded, one hit and striking out two batters in her five innings in the circle for the Lady Tigers.
 
A Ridgeway homer to left field gave the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
 
Briana Parker tied the contest at 1-1 on a Briana Simpson sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second inning.
 
The Lady Tigers plated seven runs in the bottom of the fourth innings and one run in the bottom of the fifth for the 9-1 finale invoking the eight-run mercy rule.
