PINE BLUFF, Ark. (March 8) - The University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Men's Basketball team won their third straight as the Golden Lions cruised to a 83-68 win over Mississippi Valley State in their season finally, here Saturday night at the H.O. Clemons Arena.

In the first stanza, the Golden Lions used a 9-3 run to take a 17-10 lead, capped off by a Ghiavonni Robinson three pointer with 13:46 left in the first.

MVSU would cut UAPB's lead to 22-20 with a 10- 5 run, capped off by a Jeffrey Simmons jumper with 9:31 left in the first.

Davon Haynes would cap off a 12-4 run by UAPB with a made free throw with 3:26 left in the half, giving the Golden Lions a 34-24 lead.

The Golden Lions would go into the break with a 42-33 lead at the half, the Delta Devils.

UAPB would finish the first half shooting 48.1 percent (13-fo-27), where as MVSU shot 38.7 percent (12-fo-31).

The Golden Lions would open up the second half with a 9-2 run to take a 51-35 lead on a Robinson three pointer with 16:14 left in the game.

UAPB would extend their lead to much as 19 points on a Tevin Hammond layup with 7:53 remaining in the game.

The Golden Lions finished the contest shooting 49.1 percent (28-of-57), while MVSU shot 36.4 percent (24-of-66).

UAPB (13-17, 11-7 SWAC) had three Golden Lions to score in double-figures with a Haynes scoring a game high 22 points to lead all scorers. Hammond dropped in 20 points, while Daniel Broughton finished with 14. Haynes led the Golden Lions on the board with seven, while Hammond dished out a game high eight assists



MVSU (9-22, 5-13 SWAC) was paced by both Anthony McDonald and Jeffrey Simmons as they finished with 14 points each for the Delta Devils. Darryl Marshall added 11, while Daniel Hurt pumped in 10. James Currington led MVSU on the boards with eight.

With the win, UAPB earns the No. 4 seed in the 2014 Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament and will take on No. 5 seed Alabama A&M on Thursday, March 13 at 8 p.m. at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
