LONGVIEW, Texas (March 22) - The University of Arkansas –Pine Bluff Softball team held on for a 18-15 win over Alcorn State in a shootout, in their second game of the 2014 Southwestern Athletic Conference Softball Round Up here Saturday afternoon at the Lear Athletic Complex.
UAPB (4-20, 1-1 SWAC) garnered 15 hits with Kelsey Ridgway going three-for-four from the plate, scoring two runs and driving in seven runs, while
Jasmine Hardwrick also went three-for-four from the plate scoring two runs and driving in one run to lead the Lady Lions.
ASU (3-13, 1-1 SWAC) tallied a game high 17 hits with Adriana Gutierrez going three-for-five from the plate, scoring two runs and driving in two runs, while Hannah Vesper garnered three hits in five attempts, scoring two runs and driving in five runs for the Lady Braves.
In the contest, both team combined for seven doubles, one triple, five homers and six stolen bases.
ASU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in their half of the first.
UAPB plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth with Rolanda Murry scoring on a Garcia double, followed by a Kelsey Ridgway three-run blast, making the score 4-3 in the favor of the Lady Lions.
The Lady Braves would exploded with a seven-run second inning to take a 10-4 lead.
UAPB would respond as the Lady Lions scored seven runs to take an 11-10 lead.
ASU would tie the contest at 11-11 in the top of the fourth inning on a Devon Ryan homer.
The Lady Lions would break the 11-11 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning as Hardwrick scored on a
Jordan Foyer single, followed by a passed ball scoring a McCain. Then UAPB would score two more runs with Foyer scoring on a
Delya Jackson ground out to first and Rolanda Murry scoring on a ASU's infielder's error, making the score 15-11 in favor of UAPB.
ASU would cut UAPB's lead to 15-12 as they plated run in the top of the sixth.
UAPB would score plate three runs as they scored one run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to take a 18-12 lead into the seventh inning.
The ASU rally would come up shore as the Lady Braves plated three runs in the seventh inning as the Lady Lions held on for the 18-15 win.
