Box Score GRAMBLING, La. (March 1) - The University of Arkansas Pine Bluff Men's Basketball team held on for a 62-51 win over Grambling State, here Saturday afternoon at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Arena.
UAPB grabbed the early 7-2 lead capped off by a
Marcel Mosley layup with 16:06 left in the first.
GSU would take an 11-7 lead on a Windale Glinton free throw at the 13:05 mark capping a 9-0 run by the Tigers.
The Golden Lions would close out the first half with a 14-9 run to take a 21-20 lead into the break.
UAPB finished the first half shooting 37.5 percent (9-of-24), whereas GSU shot 21.7 percent (5-of-23).
In the second half, UAPB would build their lead to seven points as the Golden Lions took a 35-28 lead capped off by a
Sean Tingle layup with 12:40 left in the game.
A pair of A'Torri Shine free throws with 7:48 to go in the contest gave GSU a 37-35 lead, capping a 13-0 run by the Tigers.
The Golden Lions countered with a 13-4 run of their own to take a 48-41 lead, capped off by a
Davon Haynes free throw with 2:32 left in the game.
GSU closed the gap to 52-48 on a pair of Antwain Scott free throws with 54 seconds left in the game. But that would be the closes that GSU would get as the Tigers would hold on to win the game 61-52.
UAPB finished the contest shooting 41.7 percent (20-of-48), while GSU shot 32.6 percent (15-of-46).
GSU (3-21, 2-13 SWAC) was led by Scott as he finished the contest with a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Terry Rose pumped in 11 to round out the cast of double-digit performers for the Tigers.
UAPB (11-17, 9-7 SWAC) had a pair of Golden Lions to score in double-digits with Mosley scoring a game high 22 points to lead all scorers, followed by Haynes with 16.
The Golden Lions will conclude their two-game road swing on Monday, March 3 as UAPB will travel to Jackson, Miss., to take on Jackson State at the Assembly Center in a 5:30 p.m. start.
