Men's Basketball: Golden Lions Overcome Tigers For 2nd Straight Win, 70-69

Box Score Pine Bluff, AR. - Marcel Mosley scored a game-high 19 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assist and 7 steals as the University of Arkansas of Pine Bluff (UAPB) topped Jackson St. Tigers(JSU) 70-69 Monday night at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.

UAPB as a team leads the conference in steals with (191) averaging 9.1 per game, gave the fans their money worth the past two games. Against Grambling Saturday night with the game tied Tevin Hammond gamble on a pass, stole the ball and scored the game winning shot. Same story different day, but it was Marcel Mosley time. With Jackson St. being down by one, with 2.9 seconds left in the game, Marcel intercepted a pass to give the Lions a thriller victory.

UAPB didn't waste any time with the Tigers, jumping out to a 12-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game. Jackson St. would soon answer with a three pointer by Javeres Brent with 15:17 in the first half to make the score 12-3. The Lions didn't let up on JSU, by going on a 18-11 run over the next 10 minutes of the game to pushed their lead to 16, (30-16).

With quick guard play the next four shots of the Lions were behind the arch to go into the locker room with a 40-24 halftime lead.

Going into the second half the Tigers would regroup scoring the first five points of the game before UAPB's Davon Haynes would answer with hitting one of two free throws at 15:00 mark in the game. The Tigers led by (Arkansas transfer Julysses Noble) would soon go on a 17-8 run to tie the game at 54 apiece with 9:49 left to play.

With the game tied UAPB, would go inside scoring two straight baskets in the paint to take a 60-56 lead. Jackson St. outscored the Lions 45-30 in the second half, but it was not enough for the comeback.
Ghiavonni Robinson and Trent Whiting both contribute 11 points for UAPB (6-15, 4-5 SWAC).

The Lions shot 37.5% from the field compared to JSU 41.5%, UAPB also scored 13 points off turnovers.

For Jackson St. Brandon West was the team leader with 17 points, followed by Javeres Brent chipping in 13 points, along with Julysses Nobles and Jeffery Stubbs both with points.

The Golden Lions return to action at home Saturday Feb. 8, 2014 when they tipoff against Alabama A&M at 7:30 p.m.
