Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. -- Tevin Hammond scored 22 points as Arkansas-Pine Bluff nearly blew a 16-point halftime lead, but hung on for a 76-71 win over Alabama State on Monday.
The Golden Lions had this game circle, after blowing a double digit lead in Montgomery last month, handing the game to the Hornets. With this win, UAPB clinched their fourth victory in a row.
Marcel Mosley had 12 and
Ghiavonni Robinson added 10 for Arkansas Pine Bluff (8-15, 6-5 Southwestern Athletic Conference). The Golden Lions held Alabama State to 19 first-half points, on 31 percent shooting.
DeMarcus Robinson scored 20 points for Alabama State (14-8, 8-3), while
Jamel Waters added 15. The
Hornets shot 61 percent in the second half, scored 52 points, made 7 of 11 3-pointers and hit all 17 free throw attempts.
Alabama State battled back after being down 35-19 at halftime and took a 61-58 lead after two Waters free throws and a
Bobby Brown basket with 5:38 left.
But UAPB closed out the game on an 18-10 run to sealed the win.
The game was moved up several hours due to inclement weather
The Lions will get ready for the SWAC showdown against the conference leader Southern U. in Baton Rouge Feb. 15.
