MOSLEY'S 25 LEAD UAPB OVER SOUTHERN UTAH 70-61

Box Score Las Vegas, NV-The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team surged in the second half to overcome a 15-point deficit and come out victorious, 70-61, over Southern Utah in Monday showdown in the Las Vegas Continental Tournament.
UAPB (3-9) took a three-point edge with less than five minutes into the second half when Thaddeus Handley went back up with a tip in to give his squad a 38-35 lead.

"There was no question at the beginning of the game [Southern Utah] was more mentally ready then we were –said UAPB head coach George Ivory, "We made some adjustments in the second half and the defense picked up and the offense started attacking more and not rely too much on the jump shots. But from that point on, we fought and got back in it. The way our guys fought tonight is a real testament to their toughness."

Marcel Mosley ended the game with a game-best 25 points on 5-of-12 shooting, including a 2-of-4 clip from deep. The senior is coming off a career high in a big upset win against the University of Houston Tuesday night with 33 points.

Ghiavonni Robinson and Tevin Hamond was also finished the game in double figures with 15 points for Robinson and 12 for Hammond.

Southern Utah out-rebounded UAPB, 33-32, but the Golden Lions outscored the Thunderbirds off turnovers, 18-11 and second chance points 14-8.

The Thunderbirds (2-7) forced a Golden Lions timeout with 9:56 to play in the first half after they went on an 8-0 run. UAPB scored its first basket on the possession following the timeout on a Marcel Mosley up-and-under layup with 7:29 on the clock.

Trailing 28-13 later in the first period, the Golden Lions narrowed the gap with a 13-2 run of its own to make it a four-point game, 30-26 at the beak.

UAPB forced a Southern Utah timeout with 12:40 remaining in the second period after to take the lead and go on a 20-12 run to push their lead, making it a 46-42 game following two free throws by JoVaughn Love.

UAPB never let the Thunderbirds get within three-points in the second half.

UAPB will play Abeline Christian Wednesday at 3 pm and after that has a six-day break before playing Stanford Dec. 29.
