TEXAS TECH OUT LASTS UAPB, 72-51

Devin Bery and Ghiavonni Robinson blocks out Texs Tech defender
Box Score Lubbock, TX- Coming off a big victory over University of Houston Tuesday night, Texas Tech was well aware and outmatched the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff 72-51 Friday night at the United Supermarkets Arena.

The Red Raiders were led by Justin Gray, who finished with 13 points including two pivotal three-point plays to help sway the game in the Red Raiders favor.

The loss dropped UAPB to 1-1 in the Las Vegas Continental Classic and improved Texas Tech to 2-0 in the tournament.

Hampered by early foul trouble, Devin Berry committed his third infraction with 15:12 remaining in the first half and was sidelined for much of the half.

Theaddeus Handley played admirably in place of Berry, but also found himself in foul trouble, which gave the Red Raiders the edge to out rebound the Golden Lions 37-25 throughout the game.

Texas Tech jumped to an early 24-14 lead, but a long range three by Ghiavonni Robinson with 7:22 in the half sparked UAPB to cut the lead to five 24-19 and breathe new life into the Golden Lions.

After a back and forth affair to end the half, Texas Tech was able to take the lead on a three from Pine Bluff native Keenan Evans with 0.58 seconds remaining to enter the half with a 35-26 lead.

The Red Raiders would jump to their lead early in the second half, a lead that would not be relinquished the remainder of the game.

One of the keys for the Golden Lions in the first half success was the team in favor of a zone defense. UAPB forced turnovers that were converted to easy points and Texas Tech struggled shooting outside against the zone.

UAPB was down by many as 20 points in the second half before the Golden Lions storm back cutting the lead to 13 with a little under six minutes into the game.

Ghiavonni Robinson led all scorers with 17 points, seven rebounds, four steals, and two assists, followed by Marcel Mosley with 14 points.

UAPB returns to action to face Southern Utah at 12 p.m. on December 22 in Las Vegas, NV
