Box Score HONOLULU (Nov. 17) - In their final game of the Outrigger Resort Rainbow Classic, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Men's Basketball team picked up their first win of the season as the Golden Lions defeated California State University- Bakersfield, 56-49 here Monday evening at the Stan Sheriff Center.
UAPB grabbed the early 6-0 lead, capped off by a
JoVaughn Love jumper with 15:56 left in the first.
The roadrunners used a 16-5 run to take a 16-11 lead, capped off by a pair of Javonte Maynor free throws with 10:42 go in the half.
UAPB answered with a 17-4 run capped off by a Love dunk with 1:27 in the half, giving UAPB a 28-20 lead.
The Golden Lions finished the first half shooting 47.8 percent (11-of-23) from the field, while CSU shot  35.0 percent (7-of-20) as UAPB went into the break with a 28-21 lead at the half.
UAPB opened up the second stanza with a 19-9 run to take a 47-30 lead, capped off by a pair of
Marcel Mosley free throws with 12:47 left in the half.
The Golden Lions ended their nine minute scoring drought with a made free throw by Love with 3:30 left in the contest, giving UAPB a 48-43 lead.
UAPB ended the contest with an 8-6 run as the Golden Lions went a perfect six-for-six from the charity stripe in the final 30 seconds of the contest for the 56-49 win.
The Golden Lions finished the contest shooting 39.1 percent (18-of-46), whereas CSU shot 32.4 percent (12-of-37).
UAPB (1-2) was paced by Love with his team high 17 points and eight rebounds, followed by Mosley with 15 and
Tevin Hammond with 10. Hammond led the team in assists with four in his 40 minutes of work.
CSU (0-3) was led by Javonte King with a team high 17 points, while Kevin Mays finished with a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
UAPB will return to action on Friday, November 21 against Valparaiso in a 5 p.m. start in their first game of the Central Michigan Tournament at McGuirk Arena in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
