Men's Basketbal: Hammonds Scores 30 To Lead The Golden Lions Past Alabama A&M, 72-64

Box Score Huntsville, Al. - Tevin Hammond scored a career-high 30 points, five assist, seven steals and led two other teammates in double figures as the Golden Lions ran away with a 72-64 win against conference opponent Alabama A&M Bulldogs on Saturday night at T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.

Bulldogs made the first moved jumping out to a 2-0 lead, with Davon Haynes answered back with a three pointer to make the score 3-2. Alabama A&M comeback hitting two consecutive three pointer to jump out plus a couple of quick turnovers by the Lions to give A&M a 10-5 lead in the 17:27 mark.

UAPB settle down after taking the lead with a lay-up from junior Davon Haynes to make the score 24-22 and the Lions never looked back as they went into the intermission leading 40-35.

In the second half the UAPB picked up where they left off outscoring the Bulldogs 32-29, shooting overall for the game 20-for-50 (40.0%) from the field, 6-for-19 (31.6%) from the three point and 26-33 (78.8%) from the free throw line.

As a team UAPB leads the conference in steals with 146, spear-headed by Tevin Hammond who led the way with seven, giving him 44 for the season. Coach Ivory changed the tempo of the game by bringing the high tempo pressure on A&M forcing them to commit 18 turnovers for the game.

Davon Haynes registered 16 points and two rebounds shy of a double-double performance with Ghiavonni Robinson chipping in 12 points followed by DeAndre McIntyre eight points.

The Bulldogs had four players in double figure, led by Tyler Davis with 14 points, Green Hill and Demarquelle Tabb with 11 points and Rakiya Battle followed with 10 points.

The Golden Lions will now look to improve to 3-0 in the conference with a tough test from Alabama State Monday January 13 at 7:30p.m.
